Police Bust Illegal Poker Game
An illegal gambling ring is forced to fold after Beach Police raid the game. Police say an anonymous tip led them to the Tropicana Hotel in Virginia Beach. There, after an under cover investigation they learned James Owens operated an illegal Texas Hold 'em game since the middle of January.
Beach Police watched from a near by parking garage at least two tables of poker players pay for chips and deal into a game. That's illegal.
Poker players say they're not surprised to hear of the illegal game as the sports popularity continues to grow. In the meantime those who work in the area fear the illegal game could hurt the Oceanfront's image.
"I don't think it's something to be portrayed in a positive way down at the Oceanfront where we're trying to bring a family oriented environment," said Adam Kaufman who works nearby.
The owner of the hotel told Three he didn't know anything about the game, and declined our request for an interview.
